Civilian killed, police officer injured in PKK bomb attack

Republican Peopleand’s Party (CHP) deputy Mustafa Balbay said on Wednesday that a new administration is needed in order for the party to succeed, and announced his candidacy for chairperson of the CHP.
The CHP received less votes than anticipated in the Nov. 1 snap elections, which sparked a leadership debate inCHP, the countryand’s largest opposition party. CHP Secretary-General Gandursel Tekin made a statement on the issue, ruling out current leader Kemal Kiliandcdaroiluand’s resignation. Tekin said that CHP members who seek to run for the position of chair can declare their candidacy at the party congress, which is to be held next February.
In his remarks to reporters in Parliament, the CHP izmir deputy recalled that the party congress is coming, and stated that he believes a new way, method and administration is necessary for the partyand’s becoming successful.
and”I say: I am ready to chairmanship at our partyand’s ordinary congress, and” Balbay said.
Former Istanbul deputy Umut Oran called for an extraordinary party congress to elect a new leader due to the partyand’s failure in Nov.1 elections and also announced his candidacy for chairperson of the CHP. The partyand’s Muharrem ince also criticized its leadership after its lackluster showing in the repeat parliamentary election, saying the party needs change and calling for an extraordinary congress to be held.
The party only slightly increased its votes in the election, after expecting to get up to 30 percent of the vote, leaving it highly disappointed. The CHP got 25.3 percent of the votes in the general election, up from 24.9 in the June 7 election. The party, which won 132 seats in Parliament in June, will now be represented by 134 deputies.
The election result has been a large disappointment for the main opposition party. Kiliandcdaroilu said in a press statement late on election night that the result put even more responsibility on the partyand’s shoulders.
In a previous congress in September of last year, ince unsuccessfully ran against Kiliandcdaroilu for party chairmanship, but still got many more votes than expected. ince received a surprising 415 votes in the vote for party chair, although prior to the congress he was nominated as a candidate by only 177 delegates.
