CHP deputy resigns in protest of government

ISTANBUL (CIHAN)- Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Sabahat Akkiraz has resigned from her party in protest of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government’s attitude regarding the Soma mine disaster.

Akkiraz handed in her resignation to CHP Chairman Kemal KIlIdaroIlu and explained her resignation via Twitter.

“I talked to KIlIdaroIlu on Thursday regarding my resignation. I stated that we, as the CHP, should resign. Our chairman said that resignation is an option but the situation is still fresh. It made me happy that some other members of the CHP are also thinking like me,” said Akkiraz in a post early on Monday.

Akkiraz added that opposition parties should come together against the AK Party government, which failed to take any responsibility for the Soma mine disaster.

“We do not need our deputy titles to stand against the government. We can support victims of Soma without our Parliament seats as well,” said Akkiraz.
