CHP deputy files criminal complaint against pro-gov’t Akit TV for insulting Ataturk

Republican Peopleand’s Party (CHP) deputy Ali Haydar Hakverdi has filed a criminal complaint against a number of people from Akit TV, including managing director Ali andOzken and producer and presenter Ahmet Keser, on the charges of and”insulting the personality of Mustafa Kemal Atatandurk through the media.and”
and”The expression andlsquoTyranny ended in 1938and’ was used by the Akit TV station while covering news of the 77th anniversary of Atatandurkand’s death at 9:10 a.m. on Nov. 10, 2015. The expression contains insults against the personality of Mustafa Kemal Atatandurk, the founder of the Turkish Republic,and” Hakverdi stated in the criminal complaint submitted to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutorand’s Office.
Hakverdi also emphasized in the complaint that the expression used in the Akit TV report constitutes a crime according to Articles 300 and 301 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), which criminalize and”denigrating symbols of the sovereignty of the stateandquot and andquotinsulting Turkishness.andquot
A number of social media users reached out to the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTanduK) through its website and telephone complaint line about the insulting statement aired during the Akit TV broadcast on Tuesday.
Yahya iekerci, who was appointed the news coordinator of the Millet daily — a media outlet under Koza ipek Holding that was taken over by trustees in a hostile move by the government on Oct. 26 — also received strong criticism on social media over one of his tweets regarding the 77th anniversary of Atatandurkand’s death.
iekerci publicly insulted Atatandurk, writing, and”Tyranny came to an end exactly 77 years ago,and” in a tweet on Tuesday, referring to the date when Atatandurk died. A number of social media users strongly criticized iekerci for insulting Atatandurk.
