CEO of seized Koza Ipek denounces request to dispel pressure by gifting university

Koza ipek Holding CEO Akin ipek denounced on Saturday the fact that he had been asked to transfer the ownership of Ankara-based ipek University to dispel government pressure on his companies.
Founded in 2011, ipek University belongs to recently seized Koza ipek Holding.
Speaking to Can Erzincan TV, a local television channel that has been hosting dismissed journalists from the ipek Media Group in solidarity, ipek said several people had contacted him to ask for the ownership of the university in return for relief from the sweeping pressures against the holding. ipekand’s remarks came only days after his previous statement denouncing that he had also been asked to transfer his hotel in Muila province to ease his troubles while the authorities were appointing trustees to the management of several companies owned by the group.

The management of 22 companies under Koza ipek Holding has been under administrative receivership since last Monday, when an Ankara court found against the activities of the conglomerate on suspicion of financing terrorism. Yet, the decision was lamented by many as the latest example of public pressure by the government on dissenting circles and business owners. Among subsidiaries of Koza ipek Holding are two TV channels and two newspapers known for their stance that stands in opposition to the governmentand’s policies.
