Ceasefire violation by Armenia continues

The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 75 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported.

The Armenians from their positions in Berkaber village of Ijevan region subjected to gunfire the Gizilhacili village of Gazakh region.

The ceasefire was also violated in Gorgan, Horadiz, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli and Ashagi Abdurahmanli villages of Fuzuli region, Yusifjanli, Sarijali and Merzili villages of Aghdam region, Seysulan and Goyarkh villages of Terter region, Kuropatkino village of Khojavend region and nameless hills of Mehdili village of Jabrayil region on May 29 and on the night of May 30.

The Armenians were silenced with a retail fire, the Defence Ministry said.

Earlier, the ministry reported that ceasefire violations which have begun since January are mostly observed in the Fizuli, Agdam, Terter, Goranboy, Khojavend, and Jabrayil districts. In all cases, the enemy’s shooting was answered by retaliatory fire.

Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.

Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994, but Armenia has continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions calling for their immediate and unconditional withdrawal.

Peace talks mediated by Russia, France, and the U.S. have produced no results so far.
