British FM Hammond visits Turkish Cyprus President

British Foreign Minister Philip Hammond visited Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) President Mustafa Akinci at his office in Nicosia on Thursday.

Hammond held some official talks in Cyrpus. Firstly, coming together with Greek Cyprus leader Nicos Anastasiadis, Hammond later visited Akinci.

Hammond and Anastasiadis met at Greek Presidency Palace. Greek Cyprus FM Yoannis Kasulidis also participated in the meeting.

HAMMOND: INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY LOOKS FORWARD TO SOLUTION

After the meeting with Anastasiadis, Hammond said that international community has been working for support to both societies’ solution effort. Hammond also expressed his pleasure to be informed by Anastasiadis and to talks for solution

Hammond also said, “There is a real opportunity to secure a just and lasting settlement in CypruS,” in his speech.

“The island has been divided for too long. Under the courageous leadership of President Anastasiades and Mr Akinci, I believe there is a chance to finally resolve the situation. As a guarantor power, the UK is a strong supporter of the efforts to reunite Cyprus and we will do whatever we can to help,” Hammond added.
