Azerbaijanis protest Armenian lobby’s event in Amsterdam

Azerbaijanis in the Netherlands have objected to holding an event dedicated to the unrecognized “Nagorno Karabakh Republic”, a puppet regime created by Armenia in the occupied lands.

The Azerbaijani-Turkish Cultural Center has sent an appeal to the Free University of Amsterdam to reconsider the planned activity with the Armenian lobby.

The Armenian diaspora in the Netherlands plans to hold a workshop, entitled “Unrecognized countries: how to solve the problem?” on November 7, the Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Diaspora reported.

The workshop is dedicated to the so-called “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” and Armen Sarkissian, the “member” of the separatist regime, has been invited.

Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, after laying territorial claims against Azerbaijan that sparked a brutal war in the early 1990s.

After occupation of Azerbaijani lands, Armenia established a separatist regime, the so-called “Nagorno Karabakh Republic”, on these territories and works to achieve recognition of it, despite Yerevan, itself, having never recognized it.

In its letter, the Azerbaijani-Turkish Cultural Center informed the Free University of Amsterdam that the so-called “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” was created as a result of the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia, in which tens of thousands of people were killed and more than one million Azerbaijanis were expelled from their homes.

Authors of the appeal said Azerbaijanis living in the Netherlands are deeply disappointed and angered by the fact that the representative of the criminal separatist regime, whose hands are stained with blood, will speak at the Free University of Amsterdam.

Calling upon the local Dutch community not to embrace the separatist regime, representatives of the Azerbaijani Diaspora expressed hope that teachers and university professors will respect the principle of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and not allow the speech by the representatives of the occupying regime.

As a result of military aggression by Armenia, over 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed, over 4,000 remain missing and almost 100,000 were injured, along with 50,000 Azerbaijanis being disabled.

For over 20 years, long-standing efforts by U.S, Russian and French mediators have been unsuccessful.

Additionally, the UN Security Council has passed four resolutions calling for Armenia to withdraw from Azerbaijani territory, but they have never been enforced.
