The first meeting of the Azerbaijani, Turkmen and Turkish foreign ministers in the tripartite format is expected to take place in Baku on May 26.

The foreign ministers are expected to discuss the situation in the region, the status of the Caspian Sea, as well as issues of developing the cooperation, a diplomatic source told Trend Agency on May 17.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu voiced the intention to establish the Turkey-Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan tripartite format in late 2013 within the 20th meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council.

Experts believe the establishment of a tripartite relationship between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan will be beneficial to all three states. If created, this tripartite format can be an effective move to bring Turkmen gas to Europe.

Currently, the existing tripartite formats, in which Azerbaijan takes place, are Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia and Azerbaijan-Turkey-Iran.
