Azerbaijani, Turkish and Turkmen FMs adopt Baku Declaration

Baku: Azerbaijani, Turkish and Turkmen foreign ministers have adopted the Baku Declaration at the end of the first trilateral meeting held in Baku, Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA.

The declaration says that the parties stressed the important role of the friendly relations, basing on the common cultural heritage, historical roots and traditional moral values, in implementation of joint objectives and elimination of modern threats and challenges.

They expressed satisfaction with the development of relations among the three countries basing on respect and support to the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries and emphasized the importance of developing cooperation in political, security, economic, trade, energy, transport and humanitarian fields, including culture, science, health, education, tourism and sports.

They agreed to continue consultations on important regional and international issues of mutual interest between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, as well as within the framework of the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international and regional organizations.

They reaffirmed their readiness to support the candidacy of their countries within United Nations and other international organizations and noted that the cooperation among the three countries contributed to the regional and international peace, security, stability, economic development and prosperity.

The ministers stressed that they would strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, drug trafficking, arms trafficking and illegal migration.

The sides reaffirmed their commitment to further development of relations in various fields, including energy, trade, logistics, culture, tourism, education and environmental protection.

Stressing the importance of energy and transport projects in Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan, the ministers also noted the importance of participating in joint large-scale projects to enhance relations in the abovementioned areas and ensure energy security and diversification.

The ministers said the cooperation would continue to preserve cultural and historical heritage.

They stressed the importance of holding regular trilateral meetings aimed at strengthening political dialogue, coordination and cooperation in various regional and international issues.

The next meeting will take place in Ashgabat in mid-2014.
