Azerbaijani border guards detain Russian citizen seeking to join ISIL

Baku: On October 26, 2015, border guards of the State Border Service (SBS) detained Russian citizen Ziyadkhanov Ahmadkhan Idrisovich (1989), a Saint Petersburg city resident, as he sought to join the ISIL militant group via Baku-Istanbul airline, the SBS told APA.

Investigations made it clear that Ziyadkhanov has been formerly imprisoned in the Russian Federation for two years and six months on charges of robbery and theft, and after being released from prison he has come into contact with members of the radical religious organization. It became clear that he has then sought to join ISIL ranks passing through Azerbaijani and Turkish territories.

The fact is under investigation.
