Azerbaijan set to ban sorcery

Baku: Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with Religious Oganizations is developing a draft decision that will permit the performance of religious rites and ceremonies by official clerics only, committee chairman Mubariz Gurbanli told APA on Tuesday.

Gurbanli said the draft decision will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers, noting that it will also illegalize sorcery.

“Heavenly religions, including Islam, do not approve sorcery anyway,” he added.

He also said that anyone engaging in sorcery will be drastically penalized in accordance with the new decision.
