Azerbaijan sends aid to mudflow victims in Afghanistan

Azerbaijan has sent humanitarian aid to Afghan people who suffered from the mud flows in the country.

This news was announced by the Commander of Civil Defense Troops of Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry, Major-General Ilham Abdullayev on May 4.

Around 122 tonnes of humanitarian aid has been sent to Afghanistan in accordance with the decree of President Ilham Aliyev.

Humanitarian aid, consisting of meat, vegetable oil, rice, tea, flour, and other products, as well as bedding will be received by the Azerbaijani embassy in Kabul, and then will be handed to local authorities, according to Abdullayev.

Over 2,000 people believed buried in their homes following landslides in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan which hit a village in Argo district on May 2.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said a series of heavy rain induced landslides struck in the northeastern Afghanistan causing significant loss of life and widespread damage to homes and agriculture.

Officials formally ended the search for survivors on May 4.
