Azerbaijan arrests former police officer sacked over service irregularities

Baku: A former parliamentary candidate has been arrested in Azerbaijan.

Osman Mehrali Mahammad faces charges under the Criminal Code’s Article #237.2.1 (illegal manufactory of the plants containing narcotic substances on preliminary arrangement by group of persons or organized group), law-enforcement bodies told APA.

Osmanov was detained as a result of search operations carried out by the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and sent to pretrial detention under the court decision.

Osmanov, who was a former police officer and sacked over service irregularities, was nominated for parliamentary elections from Balakan Electoral Disctirc #109 in 2005
