Atlantic Summit to mull Southern Gas Corridor

The Southern Gas Corridor will be one of the topics of discussions during the annual Atlantic Council Energy & Economic Summit scheduled for November 18-20 in Istanbul.

The Summit is aimed at fostering and strengthening transatlantic engagement on energy, economic, and political challenges.

President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Canete, President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency Fatih Birol, Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, US Special Envoy and Coordinator on International Energy Affairs Amos Hochstein are among the keynote speakers at the Summit.

Representatives of SOCAR, Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), BP Turkey, as well as the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan will be the participants of the Session dedicated to the Southern Gas Corridor on November 20.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects for the EU. It envisages the transportation of gas from the Caspian Sea region to the European countries through Georgia and Turkey.

At the initial stage, the gas to be produced as part of the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field is considered as the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor projects. Other sources can also connect to this project at a later stage.

As part of the Stage 2 of the Shah Deniz development, the gas will be exported to Turkey and European markets by expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline and the construction of Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline and Trans-Adriatic Pipeline.
