Armenian troops breach ceasefire with Azerbaijan

The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 82 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported on November 12.

Armenian armed forces, located in Armenia’s nameless hills and Berkaber village in Ijevan region subjected to fire the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in nameless hills of Gazakh region. The ceasefire was violated in nameless hills in Gulustan, Talish villages in Goranboy region, Chilaburt, Yarimja, Giziloba villages in Tartar region, Javahirli, Kangarli, Sarijali, Bash Garvand, Shikhlar, Novruzlu, Marzali, Garagashli, Shuraabad, Yusifjanli villages in Aghdam region, Kuropatkino village in Khojavand region, Horadiz, Garakhanbayli, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages in Fuzuli region, Mehdili villages of Jabrayil region, as well as nameless hills in Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrayil regions.

In view of the operational situation, Azerbaijani armed forces carried out 90 strikes on enemy positions.

For over two decades, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict which emerged over Armenia’s territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions.

Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994 but Armenia continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal.
