644,000 children not receiving education in Turkey

Main opposition Republican Peopleand’s Party (CHP) parliamentary group chairman Engin Altay has commented on the education system in Turkey, saying that according to data he received from the Ministry of Education, a total of 644,000 eligible children donand’t receive any education in Turkey.
Aiming to analyze how Turkeyand’s education system has changed during the 13-year, single-party rule of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Engin has reviewed the data received from the Education Ministry.
Speaking to Todayand’s Zaman on Tuesday, Altay said that while 193,289 children do not receive primary school education, 293,813 additional children do not receive secondary school education and another 157,346 teenagers donand’t receive high school education, according to the ministryand’s data for the 2014-2015 school year.
Altay also stated that the rate of absenteeism among students has increased by 225 percent.
and”During the 13-year, single-party rule of the AK Party, the serious problems with Turkeyand’s educational infrastructure were not solved. Multiple grades being taught within a single classroom can still be seen in 31.41 percent of the schools across Turkey. Moreover, this problem is not limited to eastern and southeastern Turkey itand’s a part of the educational environment even in the most developed provinces of Turkey,and” Altay said.
He added that the number of complaints filed against the Education Ministry reached 11,010 in 2015, while it was 3,509 in 2003. The ministry has lost half of the complaints filed against it between 2014 and 2015.
