276 people granted Azerbaijani citizenship take oath of allegiance

Baku: Persons who received and restored the citizenship of Azerbaijan have taken an oath of allegiance.

Chief of the State Migration Service Firudun Nabiyev congratulated the persons who received and restored the Azerbaijani citizenship under the relevant orders of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, wishing them to establish strong political and legal relations with the independent state of Azerbaijan, the State Migration Service told APA.

According to the legislation, when a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan has dual citizenship, such person’s belonging to citizenship of a foreign state shall not be recognized except for cases envisaged in international treaties of the Republic of Azerbaijan or when decided in accordance with item 32 of article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan. A citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan shall notify a relevant body of executive power of the Republic of Azerbaijan within one month if s/he obtains a citizenship of a foreign state. Failure to provide such information by those persons leads to a responsibility envisaged in the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Then 267 people who were granted the Azerbaijani citizenship and 9 who restored the Azerbaijani citizenship took an oath of allegiance in the Azerbaijani language keeping their hands on the Constitution of Azerbaijan under the state flag.

The ceremony was held for the first time according to annex #15-1 made to the law on “Citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan” on December 30, 2014. Persons taking an oath sign the text of the oath and they are submitted to the State Migration Service.
