275 students stop attending school after PKK attack in BaIkale

The parents of 275 students have stopped sending their children to school in Eimepinar, a village in the Baikale district of Van province which saw the gendarmerie station attacked in October by Kurdistan Workersand’ Party (PKK) terrorists.
Fourteen members of the security forces were injured while three PKK terrorists were killed in a clash that broke out after the PKK opened fire on the Eimepinar gendarmerie station at around 6 p.m. on Oct. 6.
According to the Dogan news agencyand’s report on Monday, while the students living in Eimepinar continue to go to school, 275 students living in five other villages in Baikale have remained home following the attack.
The parents of the 275 students requested that their children be transferred to another school in the village of Yavuzlar — 17 kilometers away from Eimepinar — but officials from the Ministry of Education have rejected these demands.
Cengizhan andOztandurk, the Baikale district director of national education, spoke to the Dogan news agency and stated that he has met with parents and muhtars (village heads) several times to try to find a solution. and”We make our plans [for the school] at the beginning of the academic year. If we transfer these students to another school, the number of students at such schools would exceed the limit. Therefore, Yavuzlar Primary School is not able [to receive any more students]. However, we will continue to work [to find a solution],and” he said.
