110 municipalities abolished in Azerbaijan

Baku: Today the draft law on “Establishment of new municipalities through merging municipalities in the Republic of Azerbaijan” has been discussed.

APA reports that the informing about the draft law Chairman of the Committee on Regional Issues Arif Rahimzadeh said that 204 municipalities are merged on 21 regions and 94 new municipalities are established. Thus 110 municipalities are abolished. 1 municipality in Aghjabadi, Aghsu, Barda, Goygol, Neftchala, Ujar regions, 2 municipalities in Astara, Khachmaz, Gakh, Samukh, Balaken regions, 3 municipalities in Fuzuli region, 4 municipalities in each regions – Goranboy, Guba, Shamkir, Tartar, 6 in Zagatala, 8 in Shamakhi, 11 in Gadabay, 15 in Aghdash and 19 municipalities in Gabala region are merged.

The draft law has been voted and adopted.

Thereafter, the MPs have adopted a draft law on amendments to “List of municipalities in the Republic of Azerbaijan” annexed to the law on “Areas and lands of municipalities”.

Speaker Ogtay Asadov declared the session closed and national anthem was played.
